Starting Max Fuller: Building a $10K/Month Business from Scratch
Hey there! Let me tell you about how I am beginning Max Fuller, my social media management business, and AM CURRENTLY growing it to $10,000 a month.
It all started while working as an office manager at a barbershop. Managing their social media was just part of the gig, but I loved it. One day, I casually mentioned my social media work to another small business owner, and they immediately perked up: “Wait—you do that? I need help!”
That’s when it clicked. Small business owners—dentists, waxers, barbers, you name it—know how important social media is. Still, they don’t have the time or resources to manage it. It takes serious effort to post consistently, engage with followers, and keep up with trends. Most want to focus on their craft, not their Instagram grid.
So, I decided to turn this need into a business. For the name - I wanted something professional and gender-neutral business, so I chose Max Fuller (way less feminine than my own name, Mariah). It’s not just a name to me; it’s a brand that feels bigger than myself, something that could truly empower other businesses.
Getting Official
Starting Max Fuller as an LLC was surprisingly straightforward. I filed my articles of organization (basically making the business name official) and got my tax ID number from the IRS—both cost $50, so I was officially in business for $100. It was a simple process that anyone can navigate.
The Website Hustle
Next, I built a website using Squarespace because, to be honest, I needed something simple that I could whip up in a day. My focus was on the basics: name, contact info, services, and some marketing magic. It’s not perfect (I still need to add a proper contact form), but it’s up and running, and that’s what matters. I’m constantly remembering, progress over perfection, always. It's okay to start small and improve as I go.
Money Moves
I’m no accounting wizard, but I’ve got a decent grasp of bookkeeping. My next steps are opening a QuickBooks account for Max Fuller and setting up a business bank account. Pro tip: you need your articles of organization certificate for that, so don’t skip it!
The Big Idea
Max Fuller's approach to social media management is not just about creating aesthetically pleasing posts. We're all about turning social media into a revenue stream for our clients. My strategy is designed to make posts that drive income increase, helping businesses thrive beyond their physical locations.
Real Life, Real Challenges
Let’s talk about the real challenges. I’m currently living with my parents, co-parenting with my son’s dad, and navigating the chaos of starting a business without a liveable income. It’s not easy. Co-parenting is a challenge in itself, and juggling all these responsibilities is really difficult
I know how lucky I am to have a safety net. Living with my parents gives me space to focus on building Max Fuller, and I’m grateful for that privilege. Not everyone has that kind of support; I don’t take it for granted.
So, that’s where I’m at. It’s a mix of messiness, stress, and excitement. If you’re considering starting your own business, my advice is simple—just start. Even if it’s not perfect, even if you don’t have all the answers. The key is to keep moving forward. Progress always trumps perfection.
Gotta Blast!
